Over the last six years, I have built a growing web community centered around the promotion of learner-driven education. We produce audio and video presentations on subjects that are often neglected in secondary school. These include psychology, philosophy, self-esteem, critical thinking, nutrition, self-sufficiency, productivity and entrepreneurship. Prior to this work, I accumulated over twelve years of experience in 1:1 tutoring and small group instruction. Most recently, I have worked with middle and high school students on standardized test preparation (SSAT, SAT, SAT II, MCAS and ACT), organizational and study skills, college essay writing and general test-taking strategies. My career began working as a counselor and outdoor educator at a boarding school in Vermont in 2000, and I was eventually promoted to lead teacher of a specialized campus. I then taught at a private day school in Manchester, Vermont from 2004 to 2006, where I designed new curricula for all classes I taught, including American History, World History, Media Ethics, Film History and a variety of mathematics courses. After leaving classroom teaching in 2006, I began to work exclusively as a private tutor in the greater Boston area. Much of this work was related to standardized test prep but also included providing essay writing support to college applicants, leading training sessions for prospective teachers planning to take state certification exams and serving as a liaison between parents and public schools to address student needs and parent concerns. I also served as the Vice President of Top Tier Academic Consulting from 2009 to 2012.
